A movie projector, or home theater projector, is the ultimate component for in-home theater entertainment. Enjoy the thrill of a life-size movie character in your living room, a larger-than-life battle between you and a friend on a video game system, and feeling like you have front-row seats at a professional sports game from the comfort of your own home. Movie projectors, or home theater projectors, will project vivid and brilliant images on screens measuring in feet, not inches.Turn Your TV Room Into A Movie Theater This is a ceiling-mount front-projection system. The object on the top left of the photo is the projector.Understanding front-projection Front-projection is a system and consists of several components: Projector - A projector shoots the video onto the screen. Projector screen - A projector screen is exactly as titled - the video is displayed on the screen.Video source - A projector needs to be connected to a video source - Blu-ray or DVD player, for example. Projector placement All cheap movie projectors, or cheap home theater projectors, can simply be placed on a coffee table, out of view on a bookshelf, or ceiling mounted. If you're thinking of a more permanent installation or need to keep the projector away from children, placement on a bookshelf or ceiling mounting will be the best choice. The projector does not need to be aligned with the center of the screen. Projector's lens will angle up, if placement is below the center of the screen, and angle downwards, if placement is above the center of the screen. When positioning a projector above-center, it must be mounted upside-down.Choosing a projector screen Projector screens are available in different sizes and types. A certain type and size might be good for you, but not so well for others.Free-standing - These types of projector screens use a tripod-like stand. They're easily portable and also great for presentations, not just HD video for your home theater. Manual pull-down - These screens are mounted to your wall and will be suitable for anyone who doesn't want the larger screen covering the wall when the projector is not in-use. Electric - These types of screens are similar to manual pull-down - there is no manual, and also mounted to the wall. Simply pressing a button rolls the screen up into the casing, or slowly unrolls it down. The "cool" effect will usually cost a few hundred dollars more compared to manual pull-down. Fixed - A fixed screen is usually wrapped in an elegant looking frame, mounted to the wall. These are suitable for permanent installations and will present a custom-like look. Be sure to purchase your projector screen after you have a projector. This will allow you to project video on your wall so you can measure and figure out which size screen and type will best suit your needs.Go back to TV & Video.
